Let's Hear Your Ideas

A sudden, inexplicable surge of hits to the blog over the last month is now ebbing, at nearly 22,000 views. Most of these were for posts I wrote about 8 years ago, so I have no clue why they were suddenly popular again. It's pushed my overall views up to over 703,000. I'd really like to write something that helps people in some way, that keeps people coming back, but reviews of overpriced Manchester nightclubs seem- shock- not to acquire that.

National Blog Posting Month starts Friday, something I'll need content for. I have a handful of ideas, but not enough. If you have an event happening in town, or you know of a protest, demo, or incident- hit me up. Alternatively, if you have a hilarious anecdote or any other really good story, let me have it.

No meetups planned for this week- will be some organised for next week soon.

Outrageous Scenes in Cirque Manchester

Dropped into new Manchester club Cirque again- this time not as a meetup, so we could be sure that everyone in our group would definitely get in.

We started in new Spinningfields bar Firefly, inside the new restaurant Foodwell, where the DJ span house music and Tom DaLips played live sax. I was driving so didn't sample the cocktails, but next time I'll partake. I liked it and will drop in again soon.

We then moved on to club Cirque, getting there at around 11:30pm, where there was already a queue. Standing in line, you could tell people were tense. Nobody wanted to do or say anything that might result in refusal at the door, and due to the club's limited size and the disproportionate queue waiting outside already, we knew they'd be looking for any excuse to turn people away. We were on the guest list, and all had photo ID, but it still felt like an MI5 interrogation. Once past security we were then told it was £30 to get in, even on guest list. Although a piss take, people will still pay it (including, on this occasion, us). In contrast, Fridays is £10 entry

It's a load of hassle on the door, but they were still letting people in wearing trainers, and still threw a few patrons out. After the catastrophic Toy Box- operating from the same Deansgate unit- lost their license due to violence, they weren't taking any chances, and the slightest disagreement resulted in eviction.

Cirque is your standard overpriced Manchester club blasting overplayed hip hop, populated by rich twentysomethings; the club had one thing making it unique- outrageous stage shows, featuring obese clowns, provocative nurses and a short, androgynous person in a nappy wearing a plastic baby's head.

Spotted: Love Island winner Jack Fincham.

Fun, but not worth the effort or price.

#tbt Beermats: Week 16

I last uploaded these in February last year, but found they wouldn't embed. Then I couldn't bear the thought of having another go. Let's see if I can get back into this.
