Carnival This Weekend

Big week ahead. Normally these prospective posts are about things that readers like you can get involved with, but I can’t resist listing a few private things.

Tonight, after Andy’s Man Club in Manchester we’re possibly heading to a karaoke bar or NQ64, the Northern Quarter retro gaming bar. I’ve never been. So if you’re a bloke and fancy getting something off your chest, then doing a few midweek drinks… 86 Princess St from 7pm.

Friday I’m hitting Stocco in Oldham for a colleague’s leaving do.

Saturday: my first proper club night in nearly 2 years. I’ll be dropping into Bowlers in Trafford for The Manchester Made Me Funky Carnival. Billing itself as ‘The BIGGEST funky house night in history,’ the night is a celebration of funky house nights of the 90s and 00s.

So what’s happening? A plethora of singers and DJs will perform: Julie McKnight, Jocelyn Brown, David Dunne and Nev Johnson from Galaxy Radio, Steve Edwards and Abigail Bailey to name a few.

Bowlers will be transformed into a Rio-style street carnival, with a neon Jungle area, dancers in suspended birdcages, a rainforest canopy over the dancefloor, stuntmen, live drummers and saxaphonists and even a waterfall.

An absolute blinder is ahead of us. Tickets are still available.

Separate issue now: Actor Reece Dinsdale liked my tweet about Shakespeare and Tories. ID was a great movie.

Meeting Adam Peaty

Today I dropped into Waterstones Trafford Centre where Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty MBE was signing copies of his new advice book, The Gladiator Mindset. After a few professional photos, the signing began. I was near the front. He seemed like a good lad.

Meet Adam Peaty

What’s happening this week? I’m off on Thursday so am heading back to The Trafford Centre to meet Adam Peaty MBE, the eight-time World Champion, sixteen-time European Champion and three-time Commonwealth Champion swimmer. He has 14 word records and a staggering 35 gold medals. Peaty is signing his new autobiography, The Gladiator Mindset, in Waterstones, Thursday 1pm.

Other than the aforementioned book signing, this has been a quiet week. ITV News’ Lucrezia Millarini liked my tweet about horror movies and what happens when we watch them. A month to the Santa Dash. Still training for this. Other than that, just reading.

Meeting Gino D'Acampo

I turned up absurdly early for this lunchtime book signing, as advised, but I then had hours to wait before the queue even formed… So I sat on a Trafford Centre bench and read I Alone Can Fix It, the Tump expose by Carol Leonnig and Philip Rucker, 2 Washington Post hacks. It’s great, but I’ve got loads more to read. I was close to the front of the queue, thankfully. Forgot to bring a face mask, so bought one, then found one in my bag, then we didn’t really need to wear one. Right. Well organised event by the Waterstones team and Gino seemed like a good lad.

November starts with a bang

Not least because it’s Bonfire Night on Friday. Before that, however…

Tuesday sees TV Chef Gino D'Acampo drop into Trafford Centre Waterstones to sign copies of his new book, Gino’s Italian family Adventure. Signing starts at 17:30, but it’s best to get there early. I will.

UFC 268 drops Sunday morning, 2am UK time. Where to watch? I was in Genting Casino Saturday night- the boss there said they don’t officially show it any more as there’s been too much trouble. Weird. But they did put it on one screen for me at the back. Will they show it again? I guess they might.

Where else shows UFC? I thought I saw Dive Bar advertise it. Waiting for a reply from them. I think I managed to get Grosvenor Casino in Chinatown to put it on. That was about 5 years ago. Any ideas?
