If
there's one positive to take from COVID-19, it's communities using
the internet to bring people together. Take the 2 support groups
Andy's Man Club and Man Tuesday.
Both are weekly events, both support men's mental health and both
utilise webcam tech to bring people together from their homes.
I've
been a long-time member of Andy's Man Club, but I've never tried Man
Tuesday, neither in person or online. I may take a look. Both
organisations are running group webcam sessions this week.
What
would be ideal is for support groups such as these, whose services
and goals overlap, to coordinate to allow for people who work
different hours to find groups of people- I'm particularly thinking
of men who are isolated from others- no matter what their weekly
routine might be. What would also be a big step forward- after
lockdown ends and we can meet face to face- is for these groups to
continue having online meets on separate days from the face-to-face
groups. A few AMC guys have been having regular group webcam chats to
check in with each other, and it's been great having people to turn
to and to be there for others to turn to.
