In
the up-and-coming trendy neighbourhood of Ancoats you'll find Pollard Yard, a quaint community of
small businesses operating out of converted shipping containers.
Among the newest of these is Funk and Soul Yoga,
which launched last
week.
Owner and class instructor Erin opened her doors Saturday morning for
a blogger taster event.
A
handful of bloggers and Instagrammers met in the F+SY unit. With 2
rows of yoga mats laid out and some Stevie Wonder pulsing out of the
sound system, the class started. We ran through various movements,
under Erin's expert guidance. Despite it being a different shape and
size to most yoga studios, there was still plenty of room for the
movements.
The
class was more physiological-based than spiritual, focussing on
posture, flexibility and breathing, rather than chakras ('energy
points' in the body). Great fun. I'm nowhere near as flexible as I
was in my early 20s when I did Muay Thai (I'm nowhere near as light,
either); I gave it a good shot though!
After
the class we rolled out a throw rug and had a picnic, with tasty
savoury and sweet treats from Simone's Food Prep.
A great morning with friendly people.
