Get Happy! Get High! (Separately)

Meetup group Happy! meets again, this time in the Northern Quarter's trendy craft bar PLY. Good venue. At the time of writing there's 60+ people signed up and it wouldn't surprise me if that number doubled, with nearly 7000 people having joined the group so far. Join them Saturday night: I might.

I just finished reading Get High Now* *Without Drugs by James Nestor. The pocket guide to tripping the light fantastic covers a range of hallucinatory techniques, breathing techniques, buzzy feelings and sensory trips. Some of these are mere visual illusions, some slightly more intense. The book suggests you find some of these on their accompanying website, which has since been shut down. But similar examples are out there on Youtube etc, most of which did nothing for me. Lettuce, for example, did not get me high- far from it, as you'll see here. Binaural beats (two tones played simultaneously) was relaxing, but not a high. Dill is supposed to aid sleep- I cooked with it one night and was still late for work the next day. The autostereograms were video-versions of the old 'magic eye' images, fuzzy rectangles that revealed a 3Dimage when you went cross-eyed. Easy when you know how.

Next month I'll be trying some of their herb-related suggestions- kitchen essentials like rosemary etc (surely these count as 'drugs,' no?).
